Every Lakefront Is Different.
That’s Why We Build to Match.

At Big Wave Docks, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. Our docks are engineered to handle your specific shoreline, wave exposure, and lifestyle — whether you’re anchored in a narrow cove or facing open water.

BIG WAVE DOCKS

Big Wave Docks are designed and engineered for rough wave conditions. The Big Wave Dock series have extra-large floats that provide a higher freeboard than average docks. Floating dock freeboard is measured from the deck surface to the water surface — a higher freeboard prevents large waves from topping the floats and soaking the frame.

Big Wave Docks also have upgraded framing to withstand a lot of large wave action. They can have optional wave attenuators that dampen the movement of the dock and make it easier to walk around, even for people with stability issues.

Duke allows a maximum of 1,000 sq ft of covered water, so our docks are designed to optimize the space for family recreation and relaxation.

FLOATING DOCKS & BOAT HOUSES

Go with the flow.

Floating docks maintain the same height over the water regardless of lake level, which allows for consistently easy swimming, mooring boats, launching jet skis, paddle boarding, or lounging in the water.

Floating docks are very user-friendly and ideal for families who love to swim and play in the lake. Most floating docks include a fixed section to access deeper water and a gangway or ramp that is hinged on one end and overlaps the floating dock on the other.

These docks are custom-configured for your desired boat slip size and often include both covered and uncovered living space over the water.

Key Features:
  • High freeboard keeps the deck dry in rough conditions
  • Flexible ramp connection for fluctuating water levels
  • Perfect for recreation, launching, and docking
  • Covered and uncovered slip designs available
  • Truss Bridging used to strengthen the frame

FIXED DOCKS & BOAT HOUSES

Fixed docks provide complete stability no matter how large the waves are.  The entire structure including boat lifts are permanently constructed on pilings.  This stationary design keeps everyone high above the waves.

Integrated water stairs allow easy access to water and jet ski ramps no matter the lake level.

HYBRID DOCKS & BOAT HOUSES

Our Hybrid docks are constructed with a roof fixed on pilings and a floating dock integrated along 2 sides.  These designs usually have a cable lift installed under the roof.  Cable lifts work great in shallow water, because they don’t need air tanks beneath the boat.

Hybrid docks are often used in narrow coves.  Duke Lake Management rules allow private users to build out up to 1/3rd of the width of the cove.  This rule is designed to leave the center 1/3rd of the cove open.  Many cove lots are limited by Duke to a dock design that extends only a relatively short distance.

Because it’s floating, our Hybrid design allows for guest tie up and easy jetski ramp additions.  The floating walkways stay the same height over the water even when the lake level fluctuates.  Lake Norman can fluctuate over 6 feet throughout the year.

The Hybrid design uses square 8×8” pilings to support both the roof and the cable lift.  The fixed roof design is narrow, and can be installed in more locations than a larger roof.  Many of our Hybrid designs only extend 25 ft from shore.

Many of our Hybrid dock projects include a fixed deck that is partially on shore and partially over the water.  This total combination gives the utility of a covered boat slip, a lift, a floating dock and a fixed deck area.  No need to compromise just because you live in a narrow cove.
